Latvian Embassy in Tokyo Celebrates Latvia’s Independence Day


The Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Tokyo held a formal reception on November 13 to celebrate Latvia’s Independence Day, bringing together distinguished guests from across Japan and the Latvian community

The event opened with a moving performance of the national anthems of Latvia and Japan, followed by the welcome address of Ambassador Reinis Zilgalvis. The ambassador highlighted the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between Latvia and Japan.

Representatives from Fuji City met with other Japanese municipalities with long-standing ties to Latvia like Kobe, Nagoya, and Higashikawa. They exchanged greetings and discussed ongoing and future collaborative projects.

During the reception, updates were shared regarding the significant progress toward the upcoming partnership agreement between Fuji City and Kuldīga, scheduled for 2025. Attendees also exchanged information on planned activities for fiscal year 2026, emphasizing the expanding cultural and municipal-level cooperation.
